Monique Salter

Meet The Lovely Monique Salter Age 40 & A native of Chicago, IL.
Intermediate & Advance Instructor (6 & 8 Count) (Men & Women)

Monique has been Steppin for approximately 6 years and teaching for 4 years. She is known by many, for her sweet smile, positive spirit & big hugs. Her magnetic personality is just one of the things people speak highly of when her name is mentioned. Her very unique sexy style has also gotten the attention of men & women everywhere. She is admired by many for the grace & feminine smoothness she brings to the dance floor. Although her class is in Chicago, she travels to teach her style of the dance. In the workshops taught by Monique, women line up to learn her feminine footwork & sexy hip moves to spruce up their steppin style. Although basically taught by one male instructor (Donnie Davis), Monique has been tutored by some of the best: Lady Margaret, Danielle, Charnice, Dominique Robinson, Andre Blackwell, LC Henderson, Tic Man & Ken Hillard.

Surprisingly, this social butterfly is not very big on being in the spot light. She prefers to be behind the scenes. Although she instructs the intermediate students in her class, she works deligently to keep things organized so that the class runs smoothly. She has been a member & promoter of the Chicago Steppers Club: A True Steppers Connection for 3 years. She has competed & placed in three contest. When asked if she would ever compete again, she replied: "Maybe". Monique has many talents, one of which is entertaining large groups of people (200 - 300). She has been called upon by many organizers of professional events to perform and teach various line dances. Her ability to get people involved & keep them focused & entertained is Fascinating!

Monique & her partners travel to do workshops, family reunions, retirement parties, birthday parties, Appreciation parties, Etc.

Monique's Vision: Silky Smooth Steppers, Inc. "It has always been my vision to have a steppin class where people could come, learn to step and feel good when they left, which in turn would make them want to come back." "KEEPIN IT POSITIVE" is our class motto. "No BS, No Nonsense, No Negativity!" "Just Big Fun!" " We embrace each and everyone of our students." "We encourage them to practice, be patient & pace themselves while learning the art of Chicago Style Steppin." "Stress & frustration have NO place in learning to step." " We deal with enough of that in our everyday lives." Closing Remarks "I've always loved to dance, every since I was a child." "Steppin is one of my favorite pass times." "Its smooth, its sexy & the atmosphere is extremely inviting." "It's great exercise & one of the things I like to do to have fun!"

May God Bless & Keep You Now & Forever,

Charnia “Le Le” Travis

Hello Steppers and welcome to SilkySmoothSteppersInc.com.
I’m Charnia “LeLe” Travis. I’m the “Beginners” instructor for Silky Smooth Steppers Inc. Although I am the “Beginners” instructor, I do assist with the intermediate and advanced levels of instruction. This past February makes 4 years I’ve been steppin’. I learned to step from Alicia Smith and Dominique Robinson of MSBU in Milwaukee.  I’ve been instructing for 3 of the 4 years, I've been dancing. I love seeing the looks on my students’ faces when they’re learning. Makes me feel good to see them smile and get excited when they master a move. I was there once, I was just like that. I just love it! Steppin’ is therapy to me. No matter what you’re going through, no matter how bad of a day you’ve had….play your favorite Steppers Cut and get ya dance on!...takes all your worries away. You can just get lost in the music. Dominique Robinson is the instructor I give the most credit to for how far I’ve come in this dance. He’s taught me so much and continues to teach me today. L.C. Henderson gets credit as well for the tips on my turns and spins. I competed for the first time in July 2006. My partner, Dwain Saulsberry and I won 1st place in the Beginners category of the Loose Shoes competition. Later that month we competed in the Annual 3G’s competition and then 2 months later we competed in the World’s Largest Steppers Competition. Competing is so much fun. I’ve wanted to compete ever since I learned how to dance with a partner; I just love the thrill of it. Will I do it again? Maybe I will…Maybe I won’t. You’ll have to wait and see.... :)

Dominique Robinson

Dominique was born in Jacksonville, FL and raised in Chicago, where the word Steppin is synonymous with a way of life. While the vast majority of his friends, relatives and acquaintances were steppin at a very young age, his love was basketball. Steppin took a back seat.

After moving to Milwaukee, Dominique noticed how the steppin trend had followed him, at least it felt as though it had. With that there was no way he could pass it up a second time. Dominique started steppin in May of 2003 under the direction of Alicia Smith of Whodini & Company. Being a fast and dedicated learner, he has quickly taken the art of steppin to a different level by creating and implementing his own unique and genuine style. Began teaching this dance in 2003, shortly after he began dancing.  Dominqiue is a former member of MSBU Productions in Milwaukee, where he was the Lead Instructor. Dominique is a founding member of Silky Smooth Steppers, Inc.,(Chicago) and Dominique and Company(Milwaukee).

Although Dominique loves to compete, steppin is a form of relaxation for him. He enjoys teaching and sharing his love of the dance.
